Funding for complex care primarily comes from "CHC" or Continuing Healthcare. This is funding allocated from the NHS so individual's can continue to live independently. Other funding includes;

Direct payment - Is a funding where the care receiver can choose who they want to have care for them. They will given an account from the local authority that is topped up. They will then personally pay the care provider they have chosen.

Social care funding from the Local Authority - This is when the local authority pay the care provider directly on behalf of the individual.

Personal Health Budget (PHB) - This funding is similar to direct payments, but is specifically for healthcare needs, rather than social care.

Our experience in working with Learning Disabilities

Christopher and Amie have worked and supported people with complex needs, in fact, its how we started!

Amie started her caring journey over 20 years ago supporting adults with Learning Disabilities who require complex care. Amie progressed her career to becoming a manager of a supported living complex for adults with Learning Disabilities. Amie would later be sign posted to a forensic mental health home that required new leadership.

Christopher chose to pursue a career in care shortly after his father passing away. Christopher had helped care for his step mum who had terminal cancer at a young age. These life changes inspired him to start his journey. His first entry into healthcare was a registered care home for elderly with learning disabilities. Christopher has gained over 10 years experience working with a range of complex needs from epilepsy to schizophrenia.

Behaviours that challenge

What is "challenging behaviour?"

"Challenging behaviour" is an outdated term that has been criticized as having negative connotations. Behaviours that challenge is now the accepted term and describes an individual who has complex care needs and has behaviours that can cause harm to themselves or others. It can include aggression, destructive behaviours, self-harm or intense repetitive behaviours that can impact their daily living.

Supporting behaviours that challenge

Dysregulated behaviour will often fall under the bracket of complex care. The individual will often need support and a complex care plan that is bespoke and individual to the person and their needs.

Caring for someone at home who has behaviours that challenge can be very distressing for both carer and care receiver. Empowering Support Services Ltd is trained, experienced and dedicated to working in partnership

with the family to allow them respite.
