How much does care cost?

An introduction to home care costing
Arranging home care costs can be stressful - Empowering Support Service Ltd keep it simple
Understand and arranging home care can be a daunting task. Family's are often left feeling unsupported and with no direction. Empowering Support Services Ltd can support you with the process and help point you in the right direction.

Home care costs vary in range and are depended on needs. Daily visiting at a set time will be charged at an hourly rate whilst live in care or "24 hour care" will be charged by the week. Sleep in costs are a set price, waking nights are charged by the hour. We can discuss what is more suited towards you or your loved one. It may mean we start slow and build up to more hours whilst we build a relationship with your loved one.

The care we provide in Maidstone
Direct payments - What are they?
Direct payments are a funding choice from your local authority or social services. Direct payments means you receive funds and you pay for the care you receive. This could be a private personal assistant or a care provider. However, both have pros and cons.
Personal assistants
The pros are you get to choose who supports you. The cost is lower and you wont need to top up. However you may need to pay holiday pay and be in charge of the employment. The other negative is if the PA becomes ill or needs time off, you are left without care. PA's may also lack experience or have no up to date training.
Empowering Support Services Ltd
Empowering Support Services Ltd guarantees we will be there when we say. Our staff are trained with up to date information and legislation. You don't need to worry about employment rights and getting cover when our staff go of sick or on annual leave. We have it all covered.
Financial Support
Can I receive funding for home care?
The current threshold for receiving funding is £23,250. This means if you have more than £23,250 in savings or investments, the local authority will not provide funding. This does not include the value of your property when assessing your finances.

You can ask your local authority to carry out a financial assessment to see if you will receive funding for your care. This could mean you are awarded full funding, part funding or you will be self funded.

What happens in a financial assessment?
Before you can carry out a financial assessment, you will first need to apply for a care needs assessment. This involves a social working coming out to assess the needs of the person to determine what kind of support and aids they may need. Once a care needs assessment has been carried out, you can then apply for a financial assessment. You can self refer using the link below or have Empowering Support Services Ltd make a referral on your behalf. We would need to be supporting the person first however.
The care needs assessment is carried out by a social worker and aims to identify what level of support is needed for the individual. They look at needs like communication, personal care, mobility, mental capacity and daily living. They take an holistic approach to determine how many hours or how much support the care receiver needs within their home.

The financial assessment can then be carried out. The local authority will then review your ability to pay for care based on your savings, income and assets. Once you have completed the application and provided the information they require, they will determine what funding you are intitled too. This could be fully funded care, part funded or no funding. If you are entitled to receive funding, you can then determine how you want to receive this. This could be via direct payment, where you choose what company or PA you would like to use, or via the council who will recommend a company and they will directly pay them.
